Incubation Centre, Shannon Consortium New Ideas for Teaching and Learning
“Wisdom lies neither in fixity nor in change, but in the dialectic between the two.” Octavio Paz, Mexican Poet, Writer and Diplomat (1914-1998)
Background With increasing focus and interest on teaching and learning globally and more particularly within each of our academic institutions, we are delighted to launch the new Incubation Centre for Teaching and Learning under the Shannon Consortium (University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Tralee, and Mary Immaculate College). Funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) under the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF), the Incubation Centre reflects our region’s commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
The incubation centre seeks to inspire, nurture and sustain innovations in teaching and learning. At the heart of the centre’s philosophy for innovation in teaching and learning is the premise that ‘big ideas start small’. The centre will provide seed funding on a competitive basis, for fledgling ideas in teaching and learning, to enhance the student learning experience, promote active learning and give rise to creative pedagogical change within and beyond the Shannon region.
